With Microsoft giving up on mobile, is the Universal Windows Platform worth the effort anymore ?

A couple of weeks ago, Joe Belfiore confirmed that Microsoft is not “focusing” on Windows 10 Mobile anymore, essentially giving up the whole phone strategy of Microsoft. While Redmond is not officially retiring the platform, Belfiore told us that there will be no new features and no new devices, suggesting to switch to competing platforms. I almost instantly commented that it is a huge error made by Microsoft that had and has the resources to run a niche mobile platform while it waits for “the new generation of mobile devices”, as they call it.

If you’re anything like me, virtualization has a great and important role in your everyday work. I use to virtualize most of my development machines, with Visual Studio and the whole stack. That allows me to avoid reconfiguring the environments whenever I need to switch my main machine, plus you get all the benefits of virtualization like for example the ability to backup the whole machine and move it elsewhere.

Intel rende disponibile una scheda di controllo per droni ed un developer kit

Intel ha rilasciato nuovi hardware kit per gli appassionati, a cominciare da un kit per la costruzione di droni chiamato Aero, giĂ  disponibile per essere ordinato. La scheda puĂ² essere usata come unitĂ  di controllo dei “quadocotteri” e si occupa di tutto, dalle decisioni logiche legate agli input dei diversi sensori fino al controllo dei motori del drone.

La scheda è praticamente un netbook volante ed è dotata di un Atom x7-Z8700, quad-core a 1.6GHz che puĂ² salire fino a 2.4GHz, ha 2MB di cache, 4GB di RAM, 16GB di spazio flash di storage, una unitĂ  per la connessione Wi-Fi, uno slot microSD ed un connettore M.2 per SSD PCIe.

Microsoft pubblica ASP.NET 5 beta8, la prima versione feature-complete

Microsoft ha pubblicato ieri la versione beta8 di ASP.NET 5, la prima che puĂ² definirsi completa nelle sue funzionalitĂ . ASP.NET 5 promette di essere una vera rivoluzione nell’ambito delle tecnologie di sviluppo grazie al deciso cambio di rotta che Microsoft ha impresso al suo framework Web con questa ultima versione.
